The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is humanity’s sharpest eye to look at the infrared Universe. From being able to detect the faint glow of the first galaxies to being able to characterize the atmospheres of Earth-sized worlds, the observatory’s unique capabilities allow it to perform a wide range of exciting science that is already — only 3 years since its launch — revolutionizing our understanding of the Universe. In this Deep Space Dialogue, we explore some of the most exciting findings Webb is unveiling about the atmospheres of distant exoplanets, which range from revealing previously unexplored chemistry on strange, gas giant worlds, to advances on our understanding of the atmospheres and surfaces of small, rocky exoplanets. This will help us highlight how Webb is dramatically changing our understanding of planetary systems in the cosmos, and how its observations hold the promise of bringing us closer than ever to putting our Solar System into context within the vast landscape of exoplanets.
