#jameswebbspacetelescope is the successor to the #hubbletelescope and was launched to #space on December 25, 2021. This #telescope has a #mirror 6.5 meters in diameter, seven times larger than that of the Hubble telescope.
This telescope is the largest, and most powerful space telescope ever built. The telescope captures images of some of the first #galaxies ever formed.
Fact:
1. The James Webb Telescope observes the #universe in light that is invisible to human eyes, known as infrared radiation.
2. The Webb's cameras are sensitive to heat from the Sun. The telescope’s sun-shield is about the size of a tennis court!
3. It uses gold-coated mirrors. A thin layer of gold helps the mirrors reflect infrared light!
4. It is hunting for signs of life on other planets, known as #exoplnets
**Webb's first deep field, taken by Near-Infrared Camera is a composite image at different wavelengths, totaling 12.5 hours – achieving depths at infrared wavelengths beyond the Hubble Space Telescope’s deepest fields. The image shows the galaxy cluster as it appeared 5 billion years ago.
