Realizing a great ambition for astronomers, the #JamesWebbtelescope from NASA has demonstrated its unmatched capacity to investigate the atmosphere of a giant exoplanet located more than a thousand light years distant from Earth. Webb has used the combined power of its 270 square foot mirror precision spectrographs and sensitive detectors to uncover hazy clouds and confusing water traces in a single observation.
This was accomplished by using the technique of "single-shot" observations.On the basis of earlier observations and deductions, it had been previously believed that these discoveries were impossible. The transmission spectrum of the hot gas giant #wasp96b was created using the webs near infrared imager and the spectrograph.
