The James Webb Space Telescope has opened up a completely new view into the universe, one that will fundamentally change what we know about the cosmos. Based on my own two decades long involvement in the mission, I will tell the story of what Webb can do, how it does it, and what it takes to build an observatory that is unlike any other before it.
Torsten Böker is an astronomer and instrument scientist with the European Space Agency. Most recently, he led the in-orbit commissioning of the James Webb Space Telescope NIRSpec instrument, which he will use to study black holes in the nuclei of galaxies and other mysteries of the universe. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
