The town of Grindavík was ordered evacuated at 23:20 on November 10, 2023, as a strong and dense swarm of earthquakes rattled the area and the Icelandic Meteorological Office identified a magma intrusion had formed beneath the town.

Jón Trausti Sigurðarson went to the outskirts of Grindavík on Nov. 12 to speak with a police officer and two Search and Rescue volunteers about the operation to let residents go back to their homes for short bursts to collect necessary belongings.
