Thousands of young protesters in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, have taken to the streets, leading a powerful movement against government corruption and recent restrictions on social media platforms. The protests, called the "Gen Z Revolution," were ignited by the government's blocking of 26 popular social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and YouTube, due to their failure to register with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. While the government frames this as a regulatory issue, many young people see it as an attempt to silence dissent and restrict freedom of expression.
What began as online outrage quickly turned into mass demonstrations, with protesters breaking police barricades and clashing near the Federal Parliament area. The Kathmandu administration imposed a curfew in and around key locations to try to control the escalating tensions. The movement has spread across multiple cities, with youth demanding transparency, accountability, and respect for digital rights. Despite warnings, the protesters insist on peaceful action but remain determined to hold the government accountable.
