The Nepal government has withdrawn its decision to ban social media sites following violent protests in Kathmandu and other parts of the country that left at least 20 people dead and over 300 injured. The protests, led by the nation's youth, were sparked by the ban but also reflect deeper frustrations over alleged systemic corruption and a lack of government transparency. In the aftermath, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhar resigned, citing moral responsibility for the crackdown. While the government claims extremists hijacked the movement, protesters demand accountability. One protester stated, "The government does not care about us. They do not care if people die. They're killing little children, people in school uniforms, with school ID cards." Although the ban and the curfew in Kathmandu have been lifted, the situation in Nepal remains extremely tense.
