There are some major storms well south of NZ in the Southern Ocean over the coming week or two, hugging Antarctica. These giant storms will extend up to Tasmania, Victoria and parts of New Zealand in the coming week bringing some bursts of weather - ie, windy westerlies, or thundery showers.

A cold front on Sunday night/Monday will drop temperatures for southerners on Monday and Tuesday, but by mid next week a large high covers basically all of NZ.

The tropics are quieter - but several low pressure zones are forming and worth keeping an eye on over the coming week or two.
