UN Begins Seed Distribution Campaign To Save War-Torn Sudan From Famine | Firstpost Africa
The North African nation of Sudan is reeling under a raging war between the two factions of military forces. The ongoing conflict has killed hundreds and thousands of people and displaced more than 10 million citizens. It has also pushed half of Sudan’s population into crisis levels of hunger. According to experts, parts of Sudan are glaring at the risk of facing a famine. To combat the rising food insecurity and famine-like conditions, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization has launched an emergency seed distribution campaign. The initiative is aimed at distributing seeds to Sudanese farmers. The UN agency will help farmers grow cereals that can meet the requirement of 13 to 19 million people to overcome the existing hunger crisis.
